Microneedling

At Aesthetica Surgery & Spa in Columbus, Ohio, microneedling is rapidly becoming very popular with our nonsurgical facial rejuvenation clients. Microneedling triggers the body’s natural healing process, which increases collagen and significantly improves skin quality. Conditions like acne scars, wrinkles, or enlarged pores are all well‐suited for treatment with this therapy. Additionally, microneedling helps the skin absorb skin care products such as antioxidants and vitamin C.

Is Microneedling Right for You?

Microneedling treats a range of skin conditions. Older teens and young adults with acne scarring opt for microneedling as an alternative to laser skin rejuvenation. It’s also an option for patients who want to minimize wrinkles and to tighten skin that is just beginning to lose its elasticity. Microneedling typically requires less downtime than more aggressive laser treatments, so it may be a good approach if you are unable to take a lot of time off from work.

Aesthetica Surgery & Spa patients may want to complement and enhance the results of other nonsurgical treatments, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal filler injections by undergoing a microneedling treatment first.

Aesthetica has been named a CBUS Top Pick for Best Cosmetic Surgery Practice—that's a big deal! Thank you for voting, and cheers to being among the best of the best!

A Customized Procedure

None of the treatments at our practice is one‐size‐fits‐all. Our aesthetic specialists customize nonsurgical procedures after assessing your skin type and condition and discussing your cosmetic goals. We perform microneedling using Vistapen™, a hand‐held device that glides across the skin during the treatment.

We begin the treatment by applying a topical numbing gel on the treatment area. After it takes effect, your provider glides the Vistapen across the treatment area. As the device tip makes contact, microneedles rapidly penetrate the skin. This creates thousands of tiny wounds, triggering the production of new collagen as the body works to heal the micro‐injuries. This process also shrinks and tightens the skin. These micro‐channels also help deliver nutrient‐rich skincare products used during the treatment to enhance your skin’s health and appearance. We recommend using serums and ointments at home after a microneedling procedure to boost your results.

Your Downtime

There is far less downtime following a Vistapen treatment when compared to laser skin resurfacing treatments. For example, after getting an ablative laser procedure, it’s recommended that you avoid direct sun exposure for up to 6 months. Because Vistapen is gentler and doesn’t remove layers of skin, you only have to take regular precaution when outside, such as applying sunscreen.

At the same time, a Vistapen treatment can achieve results comparable to those produced by a fractional laser — without the risk of hyper‐ or hypopigmentation. Other side effects and downtime associated with these effective, but potentially damaging, ablative heat‐based treatments can also be avoided with Vistapen.
