Is Laser Skin Rejuvenation Right for You?
Laser skin rejuvenation can be beneficial for many different skin concerns. Among the most common are age spots, sun spots, acne scars, fine lines, and rough skin texture. Because lasers produce more significant changes in the skin than facials or peels, they offer more dramatic improvements. There is no age requirement for laser skin rejuvenation. Whether or not you are a good candidate will depend on what you would like to accomplish and the degree of skin damage. Some patients may benefit from microneedling as an alternative to laser skin treatments.
Clients at Aesthetica Surgery & Spa often request laser skin rejuvenation to enhance or maintain their results from facial plastic surgery, such as a facelift. Because of its ability to tighten and firm the skin, laser skin rejuvenation is also an ideal complement to BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers.
CBUS Top Pick
Aesthetica has been named a CBUS Top Pick for Best Cosmetic Surgery Practice—that's a big deal! Of the more than 30,000 businesses in the area, the Columbus community voted Aesthetica Surgery & Spa as one of the top 3 in our field. Thank you for voting, and cheers to being among the best of the best!
A Customized Procedure
Your laser skin rejuvenation procedure will be customized to your skin type. You will meet with Dr. Taylor or another specialist for a skin evaluation during your initial consultation and you will discuss your skincare goals. Once it is decided that laser skin rejuvenation is the most beneficial option for you, your treatment provider will create a personalized skincare regimen. Most of our clients at Aesthetica Surgery & Spa use laser skin rejuvenation to correct one or more of the following:
- Irregular pigmentation: Laser skin rejuvenation is the most effective option for irregular skin pigmentation. Brown spots can develop as a result of age, sun damage, pregnancy, or genetics. While some skin lightening creams can help, the most pronounced results are seen with laser skin rejuvenation. Even after just one treatment, visible results are seen.
- Signs of aging: Lasers help reverse signs of aging by stimulating the creation of new collagen cells – a critical component of the skin’s structural matrix. Collagen provides the skin with youthful softness and resiliency, and also improves the look of fine lines. Laser skin rejuvenation works deep beneath the skin, in the dermis, to restore collagen production.
- Acne and sun damage: Many people who have lived with acne or sun damage are relieved to know that laser skin rejuvenation can help diminish the appearance of both. Lasers can also remove benign skin lesions resulting from excessive sun exposure.
I love what I do. What could be more rewarding than helping someone feel beautiful?

Laser skin rejuvenation is performed as an in-office procedure. Local anesthesia or a topical numbing cream may be used for those who are undergoing more extensive skin repair. Your treatment provider can determine the most appropriate form of pain control depending on your comfort level.
During treatment, the laser is passed over the skin in a smooth, regular pattern. Heat from the laser energy initiates the skin’s natural repair mechanisms and stimulates the formation of healthy new skin cells. Outer layers of the skin are vaporized, revealing soft, smooth, young-looking skin beneath.
Laser skin rejuvenation can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the laser treatment used. Most treatments at Aesthetica Surgery & Spa take around 1 to 2 hours.
Your downtime will be determined by how aggressively and how deeply the laser is being used. Usually, the skin is bandaged after treatment to promote healing. You will be asked to clean your skin frequently to avoid complications. Detailed instructions will be given to you after your session and your treatment provider will make sure to answer any questions before you head home.
Most people need about 4 to 7 days of downtime for the skin to heal. Makeup or cosmetics can also be applied after this time to hide any redness or discoloration. Additional side effects include peeling, soreness, swelling, itching, and stinging. Your skin will be very sensitive to the sun following your treatment, so please be sure to avoid sun exposure as much as possible. A skin ointment may be prescribed to prevent infection and comfort your skin.
You will have several follow-up appointments to ensure that your skin is healing well and your results are progressing. Your skin should be mostly healed within 10 – 21 days, but some redness may persist for several weeks. Once fully healed, you will notice more youthful-looking skin with softer texture and fewer lines, spots, and wrinkles. These results can last for several months and can be maintained long-term with additional laser skin rejuvenation sessions.Back to Top
