Liposuction

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Anne Taylor performs liposuction at her practice in Columbus, Ohio, for men and women who find that a healthy diet and consistent exercise are not enough to reduce stubborn areas of fat. Pockets of fat often settle around the waist, hips, or thighs regardless of nutrition or fitness. Liposuction reduces areas of unwanted fat and reshapes your body for more balanced proportions.

Dr. Taylor is a trusted plastic surgeon with an outstanding reputation for liposuction results. Request a consultation online to discuss liposuction with Dr. Taylor, or call our office at  (614) 569-2649 to schedule an appointment.

Is Liposuction Right for You?

Those who experience the most satisfying results from liposuction are individuals who are close to their goal weights, but are unhappy with stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and is not intended to remove large volumes of fat. However, it is ideal for reducing areas of fat that are difficult to tone and for improving the overall body shape and contour. Dr. Taylor often performs liposuction of the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms and neck.

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Taylor has undergone extensive training in plastic surgery techniques. She has achieved extraordinary results from liposuction for nearly 20 years. In addition to liposuction, Dr. Taylor also offers the following other body contouring options:

  • Tummy tuck slims and sculpts the midsection.
  • CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment targeting the abdomen, “love handles,” and thighs.
  • KYBELLA® injections reduce fat on the neck that causes a double chin.

Liposuction Treatment Areas

Liposuction produces long-lasting, substantial reduction in areas of unwanted fat — if you follow a proper diet and exercise routine afterwards. Dr. Taylor commonly uses liposuction to reduce isolated areas of fat from the following areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Upper back
  • Thighs
  • Flanks (“love handles”)
  • Neck

Dr. Taylor can also use the fat cells from liposuction to add volume to areas of the face during a facelift.

A Customized Liposuction Procedure

During your personal consultation, Dr. Taylor will spend time with you to discuss your goals for liposuction and how you want the final results to look. A physical assessment will also influence her recommendations for customizing your surgery’s incision patterns, use of anesthetic, and complementary procedures. Some of the options Dr. Taylor may present to you include:

  • Liposuction with tummy tuck: A tummy tuck may also be recommended in combination with abdominal liposuction for men and women who have lost core muscle tone and developed sagging skin due to aging, pregnancy, or dramatic weight changes. This option offers comprehensive results by removing fat and skin and repairing muscles for a slender, flat, and toned appearance.
  • Liposuction with mommy makeover: Several of Dr. Taylor’s female clients are good candidates for liposuction as part of a mommy makeover. A mommy makeover addresses areas of the body that are affected by pregnancy, such as the breasts and abdomen. Additional breast procedures can be performed at the same time as liposuction surgery to reduce overall downtime.
  • Liposuction for men: Dr. Taylor has specialized experience with liposuction as a body contouring method for male patients, who typically want to look leaner and more athletic. For men, the most common areas are the “love handles,” lower abdomen, and neck. When excess fat in the chest causes enlarged male breasts, called gynecomastia, liposuction may be an appropriate treatment there, as well.

Your Liposuction Surgery

Very small areas of liposuction can be done in-office using local anesthetic. For larger areas, the procedure will take place at a state-of-the-art, accredited surgical facility. Larger operations usually require general anesthesia for enhanced comfort.

Dr. Taylor performs liposuction using a very thin hollow tube, called a cannula, for maximum precision. A tumescent fluid is first injected into the treatment area and then cannulas are used to gently break up and remove unwanted fat. Dr. Taylor makes every effort to place your incisions in inconspicuous locations for the most natural-looking results. Once the fat has been removed, a support garment is placed around the treated areas to minimize swelling and promote optimal healing.

Liposuction Recovery

You will meet with Dr. Taylor the day after surgery so that she can evaluate your results and discuss the recovery process. Please arrange for transportation to and from this appointment, as driving is not yet recommended.

Most patients feel slightly sore and swollen immediately after surgery, which can be alleviated with oral pain medication. Some light bruising or discoloration may also be present. These symptoms are normal and subside over the course of a few weeks. Activity should also be limited during the first few weeks. Dr. Taylor usually recommends light walking or housework during week 1 and 2, with exercise or strenuous activity reserved until weeks 4 to 6.

Final results take time to develop, usually about 6 months. At that point, you should see a noticeable reduction of fat in the treated areas and a leaner, more proportional appearance.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Columbus?

The cost of liposuction at our Columbus, Ohio, practice varies based on factors such as the size and number of areas being treated, the complexity of your procedure, and whether you are combining liposuction with other treatments. Your procedure cost covers all fees, including surgeon’s fees and anesthesia fees.

Following your consultation with Dr. Taylor, we will share a personalized cost estimate specific to your aesthetic needs. For optimal results and safety, it’s important to remember that a surgeon’s credentials and past results matter more than the price difference.

Liposuction FAQ

When can I go back to work after liposuction?

The amount of downtime depends on the areas treated and amount of fat removed. For most patients, resuming non-strenuous work within 1 to 2 weeks is appropriate. If small areas are treated, such as the chin, you may need to take just a few days off.

Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?

Liposuction is used to reduce isolated areas of fat that remain, even after a healthy diet and consistent exercise. If you have lax skin around your middle — with or without a belly bulge — it’s likely you need a tummy tuck to remove stretched skin and repair your abdominal muscles. Dr. Taylor often performs the 2 procedures together for complete rejuvenation of the abdominal area.

Will liposuction take care of cellulite?

After liposuction, treated areas often look smoother, and you may find that your firmer contours reduce your concerns about the dimpling caused by cellulite. However, liposuction is not meant as a treatment for cellulite. During your consultation, Dr. Taylor will help you understand the improvements you can expect with liposuction, so that you have realistic expectations for your results.
