The short answer: Breast augmentation costs about $10,000 to $12,000 around the Central Ohio region. Which, of course, leads to the next question—why such a range?

You Get What You Pay For

Several variables contribute to the total cost, including the implants themselves, operating room and anesthesia expenses, and the surgeon’s fee. And it’s that last item, the surgeon’s fee, that has the most variability.

Think about it like this: when you buy a designer handbag, you know the knock-off is cheaper, but it’s still just a knock-off. Or when you need a really good lawyer, you don’t hesitate to seek out the one with the best reputation and the most experience. Instinctively, you know you get what you pay for. So it makes sense that a surgeon’s fee reflects the years in practice and their level of expertise. This is not the time to skimp.

Unfortunately, I do see patients in my practice who went for the discount option. They were swayed by slick advertising on TV or the internet, only to be left with disappointing results, which they then want corrected. Buyer beware. It’s crucial to seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon and ask how many years they’ve been in practice and how many surgeries they’ve performed. I’ve been in practice nearly 30 years, and that kind of experience is what you want in the operating room.

What About the Operating Room and Anesthesia?

These fees vary, too, depending on where your surgery is performed. The gold standard is an accredited outpatient surgery center. These centers typically have two or three operating rooms, ample nursing staff, and a team of anesthesia providers led by a medical doctor.

Yes, this costs more. But patient safety always comes first. If you were my sister, I’d tell you not to settle for anything less.

Breast Implant Cost

Implants also vary in price. The lowest cost option is saline implants, which I consider outdated. Then there are cohesive silicone gel implants—the newest, safest, and most reliable.

Sure, saline saves you some money upfront, but the long-term outcome isn’t as good. Saline can deflate suddenly, while cohesive silicone gel implants have a much safer track record and don’t “silently rupture.” Peace of mind matters.
